HP Gaming interview with Joe Mullin – Vostok Games | Survarium!
Hello fellow Scavengers and Stalkers!
Here is the long awaited interview YOU have been waiting on!
First of all I would like to say that it is an honour and a privilege to interview a member of Vostok Games. It speaks for itself when I say that I am a huge fan of your work.
With that said, let’s move on to business.
Do keep in mind that a lot of questions are already answered in the Survarium Home Q&A page.
Question 1: What kind of in-game currency do you guys plan on having ? Coins/chips/dollars/rubles etc.?
We plan to have roubles and gold as currencies in-game.
Question 2: What made you choose to create another game in a ‘’post-apocalyptic’’ theme?
Well as you know we had spent many years on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and were busy with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Once the closure of GSC was confirmed we naturally wanted to carry on with a genre of game we were comfortable with as well as expand on the ideas behind S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and take them to a whole new level. So, that lead to the birth of Survarium.
Question 3: Do you plan on taking on interns within Vostok Games somewhere in the future? If so, also foreign interns ?
This is something we are open to, however, at present we are extremely busy with very tight deadlines and unfortunately cannot offer that opportunity to anyone at the moment.
Question 4: What kind of NPC communication can we expect? Voice? Or text? Or a combination of both?
There won’t be NPCs in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sense of the word. All the communication will be done via the game lobby, for example, when it comes to picking up a new mission. Both text and voiceover are expected here.
Question 5: Will we be able to modify weapons and armor? And if so, is there any further info you can divulge?
Modification of weapons and equipment is part of our plan for the game. Initially we will provide only basic variations of that. However, as the game development progresses, we plan to expand the capacities of that feature, to make each survivor’s experience more unique.
Question 6: Once the forums are up, will there be some sort of reputation system that binds your forum account to your in-game account?
We’d like to implement a system which would ultimately link the forum account with the game one. This is an extensive development chunk, but hopefully we’ll be able to implement it soon enough.
Question 7: Is the PVP world going to be server related, Open world kill on sight or only battlegrounds? Can you give us any information on the subject?
The PvP game-mode will be much like the traditional team multiplayer modes we all know and are used to, i.e. session-based. The game maps, though limited in size, will be expansive enough to provide and open-game experience and require strategy to defeat your opponent.
Question 8: Will clan leaders be able to get a wider range of things for their clans like a custom base or other things?
We think so. But what exactly it’s going to be, we’ll speak about later.
Question 9 : Can we expect weather like rain, storm or thunder? Will the weather have an impact in game in any way, shape or form?
We do plan to have changing weather in the game. Technically it’s going to be different sets of weather effects, each having its own impact on gameplay and adding variety to the play therefore. Some massive calamities, like Storm will also be part of the game.
Question 10: Can we expect different types of natural danger besides anomalies? For example: quicksand, moving tree roots, catching a disease due to certain things we eat or fight? As a result having to find an antidote? Any information is appreciated.
There will be many threats in Survarium. Anomalies, mutants, other players, radiation, the plant life, traps as well as needing medicine. More details to be shared later.
Question 11: On many forums we have seen active contributors given the chance and/or opportunity to become a forum moderator. Will this also be the case with the Survarium forums ? Or is it strictly company members only?
At launch we will keep the moderation based under our control by Vostok Games staff. However, we are willing to have upstanding community members as moderators.
Question 12: Abit related to Question 7: Once I kill another player, will he drop all his stuff for me to loot? Or some perhaps? Or is that all related to the game mode/server type?
It all depends on the game mode. For example, in the PvP mode, the player will pick up his enemies gun etc but he will only be able to use it for that game round.
Question 13: Will we be able to purchase goodies or merchandise from the Survarium site in the future? Care to enlighten the fans?
Merchandise is possible in the future. However, as stated earlier we are very busy with the game development and this is our top priority at the moment.
Question 14: Will we see creatures or monsters in the game that resemble past beings from the Stalker series or do you plan on doing a clean slate of brand new creatures?
While we will have mutants in Survarium, they will all be unique to the our game and designed specifically for it.
Question 15: Will we be able to find rare and powerful items by exploring the game and killing mobs or by crafting them?
Exploration will be a vital component of gameplay. There of course will be rewards for this. Crafting, although a desirable feature, is currently not part of our plan list.
Question 16: Will we find hidden things in-game? Something like a random note in an old house that results in a quest or perhaps an extremely rare weapon? Any type of bizarre events going on that will keep the players guessing during their time in Survarium. Perhaps something related to what “The Secret World” is doing.
There will be many ‘information’ items littered throughout the world of Survarium. A good portion of the story will be delivered to the player in this way. This will also encourage players to explore the detailed and dangerous world! Intrigues, mysteries and hidden details is something we are keen on to get the players into. Our idea is to get the players involved into solving those puzzles and even influencing upon which direction the story should evolve.
Question 17: Can we expect a special pre-order that might include some extra digital items for you in-game? Nothing that upsets the balance of course, but something purely cosmetic?
The game is going to be free2play, so no classic pre-order campaign is planned. Rather, we’ll be carrying alpha- and beta-testing of the project. So maybe we’ll get those players involved rewarded later in some way.
Question 18: How rare will weapons be compared to ammo can you give us a little information?
Both good weapons and ammo are going to be a valued resource in the game. We are going to speak up on the weapons system in one of our next video diaries.
Question 19: Will there be global events of that would require your character to seek shelter or suffer the consequences? Something similar to what we have seen in the Stalker series.
We can tell you of one event so far called “Storm” which you can relate to the blowouts found in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. however, it will be unique
Question 20: Do you have a goal set for the amount of players you want to reach for starters like 10k, 100k or 500k? I understand you want as many players as possible, but what have you set your hopes on?
We haven’t thought about that for now. But we are pleased to see our game community expanding every month (thanks guys!!!), so we are hoping to see many-many players interested in the game by the time of release.
